Rooted and grounded in the faith of Christ
Share

Not for that we have dominion (lord it) over your faith, but are helpers of your joy (to edify and help you build and to establish you in your faith): for by faith you stand. 2 Corinthians 1:24.

Faith is personal, a measurable gift (little or great faith) we received or given as gift from God when we come to Christ. Therefore, the issue of faith is between you and God – do you have faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. Romans 14:22.

However, God has given each and everyone of us a measure or proportion of faith to walk (for we walk by faith and not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7) and to stand, and to take a very deep root of faith in him, so that by this, you shall not be moved, but stand strong against any wind, rain or flood of trials sent to strenghten, prove and empower your faith, for he will not allow you to be tempted beyond the strenght and capacity of which your faith cannot bear or put up with.

Yes, we dont have the same measure of faith (Romans 12:3), but we can grow our faith from its present measure into a stronger level of faith required for an adult believer in order to be rooted and grounded in the faith of God’s elects (1 Peter 1:2), till we all come in the unity of the faith (Ephessians 4:13), showing and bearing the fruit of the present rest, quietenes, assurance and tranqulity for those who have entered into the ‘now another rest’ for the people of God. Hebrews 4:9-11.  Lord increase our faith. Luke 17:5. Faith can grow and our faith should grow (we are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth. 2 Thessalonians 1:3), otherwise, it wont take root, and it won’t be of any good report.  Remember that God will not suffer you to be tempted beyond your strenght of faith (1 Corinthians 10:13): therefore, your stand of faith or fall into sin in the time of temptation (Luke 8:13) show your faithfulness in devotion to determine the quality of your faith, if it is genuine or not: now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned. 1 Timothy 1:5.

Your faithfulness to the word of God (Hosea 11:12) reveal the depth of the root of your faith in him and the nature (true or false) of your professed love before him (1 Peter 1:7): this is the sole reason a believer should abide in the vine to practice walking like Christ or walking in him (but whoso keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that says he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. 1 John 2:5-6), and by doing this, he will bear fruit and take root in Christ – as ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7.

Practical obedient life deepens the root of our faith in God, and the more we are able to bring into captivity every thought in us unto obedience of God, the strongest is our faith rooted and grounded in Christ. Faith thrive and flourish in obedience to the word of God, since faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17. The strenght of your faith is measure up by your submission to the word of God: was Abraham not persuaded that what God had promised, he was able also to perform? And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. Therfore, he stargarred not at the promise of God through unbelief (disobedient), but was strong in faith (obedience), giving glory to God – rejoicing in hope. Romans 4:18-21.

The rooted and grounded faith in Christ is not negatively influenced or affected by any outward happenings contrary to the promises and the word of God. The adverse circumstances and situations around him are not strong enough to stop him from praising God in the fire and to keep rejoicing (rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Job 13:15. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) in hope of the glory of God in Christ Jesus. Romans 5:1-2.

Abraham as the father of faith, was found to be rooted and grounded in his faith life and walk with God, he was found to be faithful and unwavering in his response to God’s demand of sacrifice which provoked the self- made oath of blessing by God himself to our father Abraham. Abraham’s mind was made up, and his opinion was ever the same on the immutability of God’s word, will and purposes, that when asked to do the unthinkable, that is, to offer up Isaac, and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, that in Isaac shall thy seed be called: accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. Hebrews 11:17-19.

Whatsoever is the measure of our faith, be it as small as a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20), little or great faith (Matthew 15:28), any of these three can become weak and die if it is not rooted and grounded in the word of God through consistent life of fasting and prayer. If the heart (Deuteronomy 11:18) is distracted from the word or promises of God, so shall faith gradually be  disconnected from the heart, every word heard, learnt or received must be mixed with faith in the heart (Hebrews 4:2), if believer wishes to abound in hope through the power of the indwelling Spirit for profitableness and fruitfulness. Romans 15:13.

2 Corinthians 4:13: we, having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak. Because we set our sight to being rooted and grounded in faith, we must demonstrate and practice faith and always conscious to speak faith by ignoring the facts of our situation, to stand on, and to speak what the word says in relation to the actual situation, this is another the way to be rooted and grounded in the faith of Christ which is the determinant factor of everything in our relationship with God, for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. If we don’t act, speak, respond, behaves etc in faith, we sin. The just shall live by faith, but the depth or root of our faith determines its strength – weak or strong faith (Romans 14:1), none should ever take away their eyes from the source of their supply – Christ, the author and finisher of their faith, lest they should sink and perish.

Increasing interest in a personal devotion to the word of God with practical obedient life (speak and do as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty) determines the capacity (possible exploits with God) and immensity of your faith. Faith is powerless without patience to grow and fortify it, for whosoever believes shall not make haste (Isaiah 28:16): those who are full of faith are also full of patience, therefore, let us not become slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promise. Hebrews 6:12.

Be rest assured of the following: (a) God will not do anything through you without your faith, for without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he that comes to God must believed that he is, and that he rewards those that diligently seek him: (b) God’s inner work of redemption, both to will and to do in you according to his good pleasure will not continue if you start to live and walk outside the perimeters of the word of God (Philippians 2:12), meaning that the fastening screw of your faith is loosening out: if this be the case, what is left behind will be your faith without good conscience (for the demons also believe and tremble. James 2:19): now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: from which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. 1Timothy1:5-7. Note: to decline from obedience in your labor to live by every word of God is to weaken the root of your faith, but by bringing into captivity every thought in you into the obedience of Christ is to enlarge, strengthens and increase the tentacles of the root of your faith in Christ Jesus – rooted and grounded in his faith.

Your stand, strength and ability are owing to faith, and your comfort and joy must flow from faith, for you are called to be rooted and grounded in faith – as you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7.

Where and what have you been taught from the onset, and how have you received Christ will play significant role (good or bad) in your walk and life of faith. From whom have you learnt about Christ is also important (but thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience. 2 Timothy 3:10), otherwise, you should change teacher, instructor and mentor just as certain of the disciples of John the Baptist turned away from following after him to follow after Christ who is the baptizer with Holy Ghost and fire (John 1:35), lest your faith should stand on the wisdom of men, instead of your faith standing on the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5.

Sound doctrine from your spiritual instructors or teachers, followed up by good examples to live the gospel life, with you having a good understanding of God’s word will be a big deal in your faith life: thou has fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity and patience. 2 Timothy 3:10. If a new or young covert is spiritually raised and taught under the ministry of those who corrupt the word of God (for we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. 2 Corinthians 2:17) such as the false apostle, prophet, pastor, teacher or evangelist, he can only have but a corruptible faith – the faith of demons.  It is the presence of these false men, women and brethren in Christ, their lying wait to deceive which is preventing the universal sheep of Christ fold to attain unto the unity of faith, for if the undiluted word is not preached, faith is compromised and corrupted before God and the hearers are tossed to and fro by every winds of doctrine for every kinds of false faith. If you have received another gosple, another Christ, another spirit, you can be sure that you will be operating under another faith which is not the faith of God’s elects. Titus 1:1.

The position or placement of the seed sown in your heart at conversion which speaks of the motive of your discipleship also determines the nature and the strength of your faith. If the spoken word does not sink deep or fall into the good of your heart, the depth of the root of your faith will be in proportion according to the depth of the word in your heart. Note: faith operates or works according to the depth of word of God in your heart: but if the seed has fallen into the wrong place instead of the good soil or honest heart, it will not be the faith once delivered unto the saints we are called to contend for – the genuine faith of God’s elects.

If a believer is rooted and grounded in his faith – full of faith, it is practically impossible for the enemy to take him away from the Lord, for death shall be his gain, because Christ is the reason he lives for. He will not fall away in the time of temptation but will endure and count it all blessing and joy to suffer for his Lord’s sake. The riches of Christ grace has surpasses the compelling challenges of the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things which can stand as barriers against the perfection of the works of grace in his life, having being rooted and grounded in Christ faith.
