The first, the foremost, and the most important after you believe – the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there is any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. Acts 19:1-7.

While Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard his word. And they of the circumcision which believed (converted, born- again Jews) were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, can any forbid water, that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord….Acts 10; 44-48.

You shouldn’t missed out from any of the two- one can come first after the other as you can see from the two scripture texts above, but make sure you get both of them dome in your life.  I am so thankful unto God for the new birth which God wrought in my life through the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy-Ghost (Titus 3:5-6), which he shed on me abundantly through Jesus Christ my Savior. If not for that outpouring of the Spirit of God, there will be no personal conviction, neither testimonies of transformation and conversion in my life. There is not going to be any experience whatsoever to the testify to same thing spoken to King Saul by Prophet Samuel that the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shall prophesy with them, and thou shall be turned into another man. 1 Samuel 10:6.

This is exactly what 2 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 17 says that if any man be in Christ, (better say, if any man is now indwell by the Spirit of Christ – because you will no more be in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now, if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:9) he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new. Romans 8: 8-9.

Our Lord Jesus Christ clearly and plainly explained to Nicodemus that except a man be born of water (baptism of water unto repentance) and of the Spirit (but as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name; which were born, not of the blood, not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God, meaning, they are now divine men in an earthly tabernacle. John 1:12-13) he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:3-7.

Jesus himself was born again – born of the Spirit before he died to give us the new life. We read the account of Christ in the scripture entering into the river of Jordan to be baptized of John the Baptist to fulfill all righteousness. As he was coming out of the water, the Holy-Ghost came upon him as John saw and testified that this is he of whom I said, after me comes a man which is preferred before me; for he was before me. And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove. And I knew him not; but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, upon whom thou shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptize with the Holy-Ghost; and I saw and bare record that this is the Son of God. John 1:29-34.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with carnal emotions, but you can become spiritually emotional when his fullness overflows you – the outburst of his joy, – his overwhelmingly inexplicable peace in the midst of storms etc. If Jesus in the days of his flesh was baptized with water and by the Spirit for power to live for God and to help the people, and to fight the spiritual battles, no more can you walk with God to live in the new life without the spirit of the newness of life. I bet it, you don’t want to be among those sensual believers having not the Spirit Baptism: if any man have not have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Jude 17-19.

The kingdom of God is not in talk but in power. You need the power of the Spirit baptism for spiritual life and walk, and for spiritual battles and assignments. The kingdom of God require and demand, as a necessity, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit because of the oppositions and contentions against the truth and against your life from the devil, the flesh, and the world you are saved and called to save. Your salvation should come along with the genuine baptism of the Holy Spirit according to the scripture as the witness of God both with signs and wonders, and with divers’ miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will. Hebrews 2:4.

Didn’t Christ, before he was taken up to heaven, spoke concerning the signs that will accompany those that believe speaking with new tongues? Mark 16:16-18. Here, Christ spoke about the baptism of the Holy Spirit with what to expect if you are genuinely baptized.  We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, Christ himself being the chief corner stone. So, the baptism of the Spirit of God and his sings and gifts are still operational in the church today (in the life of believers) until the time of the coming of Christ for his dead and living saints – rapture. Ephesians 2:20.

Where is the power of God’s might in you if you are not being baptized in the Holy Ghost? This is the primary reason that God gives power to those who believes and accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, – that as Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead (Romans 1:4), we also should be filled and be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might through the baptism of the Holy-Ghost. Galatians 5.22-24.

How can you walk with God, and be led by his Spirit without the baptism of the Holy Ghost? Romans 8:14. What and where is the power to birth the genuine likeness of Christ if not from the fruit of the Spirit planted to grow in you as you start to walk and be built up in him after the baptism of the Holy Ghost? Galatians 5:22-24. Sure, you will have some (not all, may be one, two or three or more) of the gifts of the Holy Spirit from the major nine gifts available according to God’s plan and estimation of your capacity to work for him, because he gives to every man severally according to his own will (1 Cor. 12:11), but all the nine fruit of the Holy Spirit are deposited in you because your transformation to the likeness of Christ is more crucial to God than your occupation for him, though both are essential. Where the disciples not first called Christian at Antioch? It was not because they performed miracles in Christ name thorough the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit, but because of their new walk and life in the likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ by the fruit of his Spirit in them were they called Christian.

The fruit of the Spirit can be modified by pretentious and false brethren, but at long run, you will know them by their true identity for what, and who they really are, and what they stands for. There is what the bible call the false humility, false love, false kindness, false patience, false peace, and false gentleness etc….such false fruit of a carnal worshipper which Absalom, the son of David shown and displayed to steal the hearts of the Israelis just to have his way to the throne, but ended up dying awful death. 2 Samuel 15: 1-6.

Are you not a nominal Christian if you don’t have the personal experimental testimony or belief in the real, not assuming the baptism of the Spirit? How can you win the battle over the flesh if the Spirit assigned for the task to help you to mortify its works is not in you? Romans 8:13. Galatians 5.16-17. How can you live in the Spirit to walk in the Spirit, if you do not have the baptism of the Holy-Ghost in you or born of the Spirit of God?

Though, many baptized believers who are living in the Spirit are not walking in the Spirit, but in the flesh, because of the deceitfulness of sin, and the hardness of their own heart, this is altogether another issue (Galatians 5:25), not the excuse to deny the baptism, or to seek for the baptism of the Holy Spirit – and I say unto you, ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that keeps asking will receive; and he that keeps seeking will find; and to him that keeps knocking, it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luke 11:9-13.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the basic or fundamental issue in the kingdom of God as Jesus spoke to the woman of Samaria by the well of Jacob – Jesus answered and said unto her, whosoever drink of this water shall thirst again. But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life John 4:14. It is the first, the foremost and the most important spiritual ceremony of God’s seal upon you before you start walking with him or working for him.

If you don’t want to be left clueless about the events in the world, and about the church in the world (because he will show you things to come. John 16:13), you needed the Baptism of the Spirit for revelatory truth for spiritual understanding and for the application of the word, for His power (Acts 1:5), and for every other things you will derive or obtain from Him, even the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, nor knows Him: but you shall know Him; because he shall abide with you…now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. John 14:17. 1 Corinthians 2:12-14.

Many Christians are like (powerless and sensual) the sister in the book of the Song of Solomon chapter 8 verse 8 – we have a little sister, and she hath no breasts; what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for..? Do you think that it was in vain that the apostles which were at Jerusalem, after  they heard that the people in Samaria had received the word of God, sent unto them Peter and John, who when they were come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy-Ghost? For as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy-Ghost. Acts 8: 14-17. Note the word ‘he was not fallen upon them’…the baptism of the Spirit of God is a personal or collective encounter and contact with the third person of the trinity to establish his communion with you.

Alas! Be careful where and how you are searching for the baptism of the Holy-Ghost, and do not allow any man or woman to transfer another spirit into your life by laying on of their hands on you. You can receive the outpouring without anyone laying hands on you, even in your bedchamber if you seek him for this with all your heart, -and the communion or fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with you now and forever. 2 Cor. 13:14.

Listen to the recent testimony of sister ‘Y’ from Scotland while I asked her to seek for the baptism of the Holy-Spirit in the privacy of her bedroom. Dear pastor Emmanuel, my tongue just changed and words which I do not understand start pouring out of my mouth and I tried to refrained myself, but I remembered your instruction not to forbid myself or anyone not to speak in tongues (1 Cor. 14:39), so I continue to speak freely (for he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands him; howbeit in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 1 Cor. 14:2), not holding myself back to edify myself (1 Cor. 14:4): but surprisingly, the more I speak, the more it flows out of me, and the better it gets, this was so awesome as new reality dawn on me. Psalms 81:10.

Truly the scripture cannot be broken, out of my belly is now flowing the rivers of the living water (in the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.(But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) John 7:37- 39) as I continue praying in the Holy Ghost, building up my holy faith. Jude 1:20.

Nobody should teach you how to speak in new tongues because you must speak after you are filled by the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit Himself, not any man to give you utterance. Acts.2:4. Never say, if it is the will of God, he would give me or pour his Spirit on me. As a believer, you do have some little measure of the Spirit works and influences on you because no one can say Jesus is Lord except the by the Spirit of God. here, we are talking about the indwelling, the actualization of God dwelling in you by His Spirit, you becoming his temple by the Holy Ghost which you have of him.

Another big lie is that not everybody speaks in new tongues!

The question of Apostle Paul that do all speaks with tongues in 1 Corinthians 12 verse 30, do not means that some shall be able to speak with new tongues, while some shall not be able speak with tongues. Christ said, whosoever believes and is baptized (with the Holy-Ghost) shall be saved; and whosoever does not believes shall be damned; and these signs shall follows them (not some or few, but all) that believes….they shall speak with new tongues….Mark 16; 16-18.

We should not mixed or confused the special gift of the divers’ kinds of tongues (1 Cor. 12:10 d), to the general and common speaking in tongues, these are not the same. Every Spirit baptized and filled believer speak in new tongues, but not all have the gift of diversities of tongues which is able to empower the gifted into direct interpretation of his tongues for the edification of the assembly during the moment of worship and prayer. It is common that those who are gifted with the diversities of tongues are also gifted with the interpretation of tongues, wherefore, let him that speaks in an unknown tongue (general tongues) pray that he may interpret: for if I pray in an unknown tongues, my spirit is praying, but my understanding is unfruitful. 1 Cor. 14:14.

Now, coming back to answer do all speak in tongues question!

Here, the question was to show the truth that not everyone in the church received the gift of interpretation of tongues, therefore, if you cannot interpret your tongues so that others may learn and be edified, speak your tongues within you or silently between you and God. 1 Cor. 14:28.

Normally, the general tongue speaking, – praying in the Spirit or praying by speaking in tongues (1 Cor.14:2) is designed to help us in our private prayer season at home, as it is written, in the same way, the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, since we do not know how to pray as we should. But the Spirit himself intercedes for uswith groans too deep for words, and the one who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, for the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to God’s will (Romans 8:26-27): wherefore let him that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 1 Cor.14:13-15.

Paul asked this question to say that though we all speak in tongues and are able to interpret the tongues, but should we all speak confusedly and noisily to be interpreted in the church at the same time without orderliness? No! We should speak in tongue one after the order if there is an interpreter or if you can interpret your tongue, and to wait for someone first to finish speaking or giving an exhortation or warning message before you speak after them in orderly manner. 1 Cor.14:31.

Jesus Christ the same, yesterday, today and forevermore: yes, all of them that received the baptism of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost spoke with new tongues Acts 2:1-4), – all of them at Samaria whom Peter and John prayed for spoke with the new tongues (Acts 8:18-20), – all of them which heard Peter preached the word of God at the house of Cornelius spoke with new tongues (Acts 10; 44-47), – all the twelve men met by Apostle Paul at Ephesus, having first received the baptism of water and were ignorant of any baptism of the Holy-Ghost in Acts chapter 19 verses 1-7 received the baptism in the Holy-Ghost and spoke with new tongues and prophesied instantly.

The devil is confused whenever you speak directly to God, speaking or praying in tongues. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is not hypothesis, but experimental and practical because He – the Spirit of God comes with the confused noise of a warrior whose garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire (Isaiah 9:5) after you are baptized with Holy Ghost and with fire by Christ who has redeemed you by his precious blood. Luke 3:16.
