The zeal of thine house. Nimes 07-04-21.

And he (Christ) put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak. Isaiah 59:17.
After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days. And the Jews’ Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: and when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; and said unto them that sold doves, take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, the zeal of your house hath eaten me up. John 2: 12-17.
I remember one of the early days of my conversion when the Lord shows me a dream that turn my life positively around for his glory. In my sleep, I was in the dream with some of my old friends of the world smoking marijuana and partying with girls and dancing to the music of Cool and the Gang, let’s go dancing ooh la la la song in my late father’s living room. Suddenly, I see him coming with two other friends toward the house with displeasure and disappointed countenance for what he sees us doing in his parlour turned to booze and smoking room. I can hear him saying, why have you chosen to deprive me the right to enter into my house by turning it into a dirty club house with your friends? Upon this I wake up with a very strong but godly fear which led to my deliverance from smoking marijuana and cigarette to allow God (my father) to come into my life (his house) with the gifts of his spirit (the friends) to dwell in his house which is my body. This is the godly sorrow, the zeal and urgency to get things right in our life in our relationship with God (for godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 2 Corinthians 7:10-11): this is also the cleansing of a spiritual temple of God which we are, for which cause we are bought by the blood of the Jesus Christ, we no longer belong to ourselves anymore. Either it is the spiritual or physical temple or house of God, both is somehow connected together. Note: Christ love and zeal for the fallen man made him to lay down his life for our present and future salvation (John 18:8) to the end to make himself a glorious church, without spot or wrinkle – his spiritual body. Should anyone by whatever reason seek to destroy the church which is the body of Christ, which is also the Lord’s vineyard (in that day sing ye unto her, a vineyard of red wine.  I the Lord do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day. Isaiah 27:2-3) which he is determined and avid to build against all odds, he will not be slack to defend and protect the church in which he continually walks day and night in the midst of the seven golden candle sticks: not only to correct, encourage and rebuke, but to defend and to fight against anyone or anything which the enemy would seek to use as instrument to destroy his church with the sword of his mouth lest the gates of hell should prevail against it. Matthew 16:18.
There is no virtue found in our Lord Jesus which could not be found in his elects: for as many as are baptized into Christ have put on Christ; be zealous therefore and repent of any slothfulness, lukewarm and any spiritual sluggishness or unenergetic behavior as Christ commands. Revelation 3:19.
Christ as the sacrificial Lamb of God instruct us to put on his meekness and gentleness, while his warrior depiction as the Lion of the tribe of Judah calls us not to shy away from the enemy’s bashing at us whenever he come to us with any of his unnerving behaviors, but to resist him courageously, even as our Lord chased the buyers and sellers out of the temple according to that which is written that my house shall be called the house of prayer and not otherwise. Isaiah 56:7. Have we not been given the spirit of son ship, boldness and adoption whereby we cry Abba Father? And, are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus not made as bold a lion? Be bold therefore, and quit (behave) yourselves like men to fight for the sanctity of the house of the Lord. Proverbs 28:1.
Christ was clad with zeal as a cloak, believer’s minimal expression of gratitude to Father’s love in Christ Jesus is to (a) serve the Lord with gladness all the days of his life – rejoice evermore: (b) keep the fire of the spirit on the altar of his life burning day and night (and the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings. The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out. Leviticus 6:12-13): not slothful in business, but fervent in the spirit serving the Lord. Romans 12:11. These two things works together, namely, the oil of gladness ignited by the fire of the spirit, serving Christ: for where there is gladness of heart, joy is not wither, but glowing, and it is evidence that the fire of the spirit is burning.
Like Christ, believers should throw a cloak of passion across his shoulder in his readiness to contend victoriously for the faith once delivered unto the saints. The zeal of God’s house is not fulfilled except it includes the zeal to keep and abide in his word (Psalms 119:139), the zeal for the work and services of our King in the church and in the world (2 kings 10:16. I Corinthians 14:2), zealous to increase in every good works to provoke others unto love and unto good works as God’s peculiar servants, redeem and made zealous for every good works (2 Corinthians 9:2. Titus 2:14), and the zeal in our undying love and increasing desire for God’s people to be established and made perfect and complete in all his will through our labor of love in supplication and prayer before our God day and night – Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, salutes you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis. Colossians 4:12-13.
Like the two sons of Eli, fake believers have their goal and purpose for serving in the temple and to meet up with their personal interest in the house of God (for I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s. Philippians 2:20-21): but like king David, the true worshippers in spirit and truth would not come into the tabernacle of their houses, nor go up into their beds; they will not give sleep to their eyes, or slumber to their eyelids, until they find out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob (Psalms 132:1-5): they shall weep and mourn before God for any mischief or iniquity in the place of righteousness – God’s house (1 Corinthians 5:2):  they would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God to keep the orderliness and security of the place of worship than to dwell in the tents of the wicked. Though, they dwell in a house of cedar, but their chief joy and continual resort is the house of God (Psalms 71:3), that they might dwell in his house all the days of their lives, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple (Psalms 27:4): they will keep the holy place holy bytheir  reverential behavior, orderly worship in holy habiliment, and not in the attire of harlot of any strange apparel (Zephaniah 1:8), neither will they bear or tolerate anyone to desecrate the temple of the Lord by any wicked comportment in the name of false love, tolerance and unity (1 Corinthians 5: 11-13): but will resist, defend and rebuke and stand up against any unholy and ungodly act for the glory and honor of the sanctimonious name by which they are called. 1 John 3:1-3.
I was glad when they say unto me, let us go into the house of God (Psalms 122:1): but as we can see from the early church asssembly, Ananias and Saphira his wife was among the brethren in the church for a different reason of personal show and aggrandizement of vain glory, while the true zeal of others for God’s house and the welfare of the poor brethren was shown by their honest and selfless sacrificial giving to the glory of God’s name for the relief of their poor brethren in the house of God.
Good works and good things may become absolutely evil and unacceptable if they are not properly done in the right manner such as the traders seek to turn the house of God into a market place – dens of thieves and robbers. A market place should be for buyers and sellers while the house of God should be for the pastor and his congregate of worshippers and God’s seekers. At the cleansing of the temple, we see men and women who are so glad to be found inside the house of God as marketers by turning the temple into a market place of gain and money exchange, but the Lord went inside to overthrow their tables and merchandise out of the house of God. The disciples have never seen their lowly, meek and gentle Lord in such a heat and inflamed spirit. Why Christ whom they have believed should be the Savior of the world or the king of Israel seemingly forgets himself as to do such immoderate, unrestrained and excessive act of force against the people in the temple? Note: there are certain things that longsuffering and gentleness of the spirit would not resolve if we do not show the boldness of the lion within us to resist and disallow (now also many nations are gathered against thee, that say, Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion. But they know not the thoughts of the Lord, neither understand they his counsel: for he shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor. Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: for I will make your horn iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass: and thou shall beat in pieces many people: and I will consecrate their gain unto the Lord, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth. Micah 4: 11-13) its existence or the continuation of it – let favour be showed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the Lord. Isaiah 26:10.
Just as each room in our home has its unique purpose such that no reasonable woman should cook or prepare food in the bedroom if she is still at her right mind, such should we repudiate any activity that does not promotes righteousness or hallow the name of Jehovah in his holy temple so that the house of prayer should be distinguished from any other. Though we are now living in a world of a canceled culture, but we cannot tolerate, and should not seek to do anything ungodly or accept any ungodly behaviors, words and deeds in the house of God for the zeal of his house.
Our body (which is the actual temple of God) and our places of worship where two or three gather in his name as he promised to be present (house of God) should be strictly set aside to honor God’s name for godly and holy purposes and spiritual events of gatherings to the glory of the risen Christ. The church building where we worship God should not be turned into any worldly business and activity before, during or after the church gathering, for such practice, behavior or mentality is not honoring to Jehovah’s name, not hallowing his house. There is an holy-anger, the upset or annoyance of the Holy Spirit within us which is caused by certain outward abominable works of sinners, exciting strong and holy, but not carnal and unbiblical emotion and reaction (the longer Paul waited in Athens for Silas and Timothy, the angrier he got—all those idols! The city was a junkyard of idols) from us. Acts 17:16.
Christ has not saved us to become a dummy individual new and senseless creatures in him. The bible commands us not to provoke or envy one another (Galatians 5:26) which means that there are certain actions from others which can reasonably and justifiably provoke others in the sight of God. Matthew 5 verses 22 reads that whosoever is angry against his brother without a cause…..there is a part of God’s nature in us which is designed to express displeasure against repetitive, unscriptural and ungodly practices which may bring disrespect to the holy reputation of God, and it can also bring other people into destruction if we don’t act spiritually aggressively (Acts 13:6-12), or may also implicate us before God if we keep silence and fail to defend the cause and honor his name by Spirit- led action such as Phinehas demonstrate by his action to prevent the continuation of the outpouring of divine anger to go after and kill an Israelites man who was defiant and promiscuous to bring his sexual sin and immoral partner (Moabite lady) to the camp for sexual pleasure in the sight of all his brethren. Phinehas took a Javelin and went after the man and the woman and killed both of them (Jehovah counted it as his righteousness) and the Lord’s plague was stayed from the children of Israel. And, he by his action turned away divine wrath and destruction from the camp and was blessed by God.  And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying, Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous (holy fire in anger) for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. Wherefore say, behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: And he shall have it and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel. Psalms106:28-31. Numbers 25:10-13.
It is dishonoring to God, and we shall be found guilty of sin of a silent participant and allowance if we failed to speak up against any ungodly, worldly and unscriptural practice (s) or behavior (s) in the house of prayer and worship centers because we don’t want to be called bigotry against the name of modernization, tolerance and love:we are therefore not the light of the world if we are not contending for the faith once delivered to the saints against such acts or practices which are subtly introduced by the enemy to desecrate the temple of worship.
The world’s view and belief that if you can’t beat them, you should join them should not be our norm. The zeal of God’s house, word and name forbids us to consult our own reputation, praise, credit, ease and safety when they come in competition against the word of God, his will and our duty before him to others. Consider the response of Jesus in the book of Mark chapter 3 verses 33-35 when he asked; who is my mother and brethren? For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my mother and brethren. This may sound harsh, humiliating and offensive to some followers and hearers if they are to interpret his word by the letter instead of the spirit of the word (2 Corinthians 3: 6) to apply sentiment and morality to interpret spiritual truth and revelation. This is Christ zeal for the word (and of Levi he said, let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant. Deuteronomy 33:8-11) and for the people of God even as David say, I am a companion of them that fear you, and of them that keep your word. Psalms 119: 63.
Moreover, Christ lesson is that the minister’s family should not be the attraction or distraction in the house of God, nether should they be the centre of interest except for the pattern of good works and the work of souls winning. There is a time to work and a time to rest; a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing: by giving our best to the people for whom we are called to serve must be our pursuit, goal and consummation; whosoever loves his father or mother or brethren or his own life more than God is not worthy of him.
Woe unto you when all men shall speak well of you, for in the same manner did their fathers to the false prophets. Luke 6:26. We should be very careful of the sin, condemnation and damnation of evil tolerance (say nothing and explain nothing) though we did not actually practice evil. We shall be doomed if we tolerate evil in the church or at home in the name of getting along well with everybody in the name of false peace. This is not the way to seek and pursue peace (2 Kings 9:22. 2 Timothy 2:22) other than we are partakers in other men’s sin as long we do not lovingly rebuke (1 Timothy 5:20) and politely standing up against their sinful works or forsake their company altogether. Psalms 101.
No one should trade or replace the supreme love for God’s purpose, glory and interest in exchange for any other love and affection: the latter may come after the former in a godly manner, but God’s purpose, glory and interest should always come first. Prophet’s Eli clouded judgement by his false emotional love for his children (he that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him betimes. Proverbs 13:24) in his involuntary permission for the continuation of their promiscuity in the temple which he failed to take disciplinary action against them had his entire generation after him exclude and bar perpetually from the priesthood. Certainly, he could have saved his two sons, daughter in law and himself from dying prematurely and shamefully on the same day if he has openly stand up against them to chastise and rebuke them publicly to defend the honor of God’s word, people and temple for the zeal of God’s house. We should  keep away from false emotion, being maudlin – foolishly sentimental in our representative of God to uphold the integrity of his word for the purification of his house in an undivided preference or fondness, removing anything and anyone, including our mother, father, uncle, aunt, son, etc who may be causing offenses and stumbling blocks in any responsibility, office or vocation in the defense of the glory, gospel, name and temple of God: and Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron. 1 Kings 15:11-13.
In these last days when iniquity shall increase, and the zeal and love of many shall wax cold in the Lord, only the genuine and radical men of God like Nehemiah shall be able to stand up to defend the honor of his name, word and the zeal of his house. ‘In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals. There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the Sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, what evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the Sabbath day? Did not your father’s thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? Yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath. And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the Sabbath day. So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice. Then I testified against them, and said unto them, why lodge you about the wall? If ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the Sabbath. And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy. In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab: and their children spoke half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people. And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves. Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God and God made him, king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin. Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives? And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me. Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites. Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, everyone in his business; and for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the first fruits. Remember me, O my God, for good’.  Nehemiah 13:15-31.
Yes, it is good and profitable to be consumed by the zeal of God’s house (Psalms 69:6), but we should be very careful not to be consumed by God wrath by showing or demonstrating zeal without proper knowledge of scripture lest we incur his wrath upon us just as Uzzah who was not a priest, but a Levite (Numbers 4:15) enthusiastically took interest touch to prevent the ark of God shaking on the cart from falling to the ground because the oxen shook it; but God smote him dead on the spot for his error of intrusion into the priestly office – let every man therefore abide in the calling they are called by God, and not to intrude into another man’s office or ministry for whatever reason. 2 Samuel 6: 1-9.
It is of a great reward to love and be zealous to serve God in the readiness and lowliness of mind with respect and honour for others; and not to exalt or compete against other believers before whom we are called to edify them in love through God’s gifts. The spirit of a prophet is subject unto him: if we are gifted and anointed by God, there shall room be made for us without any motive of any vain glory on our part that the testimony of Christ should be made known if the Lord so required – the gift of man opens doors for him. Proverbs 18:16. It is the Holy Spirit’s work to make room for the use of those gifts, to decide where and when he requires their manifestations to the glory of Christ (now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, after they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. Acts 16:6-7), positioning us where he knows we should be rightly fitted and timely needed in the body of Christ.
Let no one think or attempt to exercise any false gift in the name of zealousness for the name and house of the Lord (Proverbs 25:14): it is deception and manipulation of God’s people – setting up a strange fire, taking the name of God in vain – it is damnable. God is not the author of confusion, something should be wrong somewhere if our perceived zeal for God’s house is causing division and confusion in the church like the competitive, jealous proud and envious Dathan, Koran and Abiram caused division and confusion when they plot a rebellious act against Moses and Aaron in the spirit of false zeal to covet higher position of authority and recognition in the church in the wildernenn; but God crushed them and caused the earth to open and swallow them alive with the people that followed them in rebellion against the church authority in the wilderness. Numbers 16; 1-6. Psalms 106: 16-17.
