But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:20-21.
The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: but, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.  The Lord grants unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou know very well. 2 Timothy 1: 16-18
It would be unjust on my part to speak partially and only on the second part of the first text before us by ignoring and omitting the first part of it without which the explanations for the entire text is not completed. The inability of some of us to speak in a new tongue could be as the reason of our mindset, fear, and the circle of believers we found ourselves: but the utterance to speak in a new tongue is promised to every believer by Christ Jesus without any exception (he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. Mark 16:16-17. While Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?  And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Acts 10:44-48. And it came to pass, that, while Apollo’s was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples. He said unto them, have you received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. Acts 19:1-7), lest any should think that the age of speaking in tongues is past or has ended with the early church, not having a wrong and false notion that it is a special gift not available today to all believers, but to the few. It is God’s perfect will that we should continually be building and edifying ourselves in the inner man in the continuity of exercising by praying in the Spirit or praying in the Holy Ghost (for he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands him; howbeit in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he that prophecy speaks unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself; but he that prophecy edifies the church. I would that ye all speaks with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesy than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. 1 Corinthians 14:2-5: wherefore let him that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.  What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 13-15: If any man speaks in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 27-28: wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:39-40) which makes intercessions for us with groaning that words cannot express to help our weaknesses in prayer, if we do not ignored his help and ability to pray through us on our behalf according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27.
Yes, the grace of Christ has brought us back to the love of God and back into the fellowship of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14), we should continue to grow and increase in these three things unto the end, they should all abide with us now and forever. Amen. There is a vibrant inner fortification – the inner consciousness of the flow of the rivers of the living water, springing up to eternal life as the result of speaking, not in an empty -dry tongue, but in one uttered by the tongue of fire. Psalms 39:3. I guess that this has to do with the prayer of Apostle Paul that that he (God) would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your heart by faith…Ephesians 3:19. The comforter (Holy Spirit) works within us to regulate our mental composure and moral comportment by his increasing and abounding quickening through his fruit in us – love, peace, joy, kindness etc if we choose to walk in the Spirit, that we might keep growing in the love of God while looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
The problem and error with new generation Pentecostalism or Pentecostal church is the doctrine of eternal security of an unconditional love of God or the God of an unconditional love without doing the works which accompany salvation – once saved, forever saved, no matter what, though you once put your hand into the plough and then look back (Luke 9:61) or fall away by the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things, you’ll forever be saved. Mark 18-19. You can’t speak your way in a new tongue to heaven if you are living, but not walking in the Spirit (for it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinks in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God: but that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. Hebrew 6:4-9), not preparing the way of God to make straight in the dessert an highway for your God, even an highway of holiness in your life, without which no man shall see God. Isaiah 35:8. Hebrews 12:14.
Though speaking in a new tongue has it place in the life of a believer and in the church as a whole (how is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speaks in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.  But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 1 Corinthians 14:26-28), while its benefits in spiritual warfare and personal prayer life are indispensable, but should not be taken as the passport of a genuine spiritual identification of a true child of God without all the fruit of the spirit, if the lifestyle is far from the living bible that everyone can read. 2 Corinthians 3:2. Spirituality in Christ Jesus without gradual and increasing transformation into his likeness is of no use to God, neither of any good to us and others in terms of eternity. Tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: a believer should not be deceived by outward manifestations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit which are good in themselves, but not without the fruit of the spirit and the testimony of Christ life in a conversation as it becomes his gospel. Philippians 1:27.
Of what benefit and good do we edify ourselves by speaking with the tongues of men and of angels if we are not keeping ourselves in the love of God, preparing to meet him? Except we keep ourselves in the love of God, what should follow after shall elude us – the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ we are to keep looking for unto eternal life.
First, let us know that the love of God is unfolded in two parts, namely, the devotional love which can be a shallow and cold relationship with God, as well as a robust, fruitful, deep, deeper and deepest – die hard intimacy of fellowship with him through meaningful daily prayer, and quality study and meditation time as we show the fruit of it through practical obedient walk in the word of God. The second love of God is the service love in our zeal for his name’s sake in our desire to be used for his glory. There is an irreversible danger of eternal proportion lurking in place if we are not following after the ways and life of the Lord, though we are using the authority of his name before people to work miracles, signs and wonders. Matthew 7:21-23. Today, many people are like the guy which James and John tried to stop when they see him casting out devils because they never once saw him devoted his life in fellowship and discipleship to Christ like the rest – he was not numbered among the twelve who has forsaken all to follow the Lord in total devotion and apprenticeship to the ways and life of the Lord Jesus Though they were rebuked by the Lord for their action, yet, the Lord’s response to the faith filled action of the man using the authority of his name to cast out demons did not justify or authenticate his action as of God (what then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. Philippians 1:18), neither condemns him because he was not with the twelve (and John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he follows not us: and we forbad him, because he follows not us. But Jesus said, forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part. Mark 9:38-40), but to teach us that what counts now are not men pretending casting out demons by Beelzebub as of God, or by another Jesus and spirit, or by the true finger of God, but that the scriptures might be fulfilled which was spoken of by David concerning the Lord, that his name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. Psalms 72:17.
If we are not rebellious and self self-seeking, but are true to God and his word, the quality of our devotional love and life should determine the quality of our service love which is also known as the labor of love for the zeal of his house or for the sake of his name. Devotional love fuels the power of the Spirit within us, and it supplies the grace for quality and meaningful service love. Some brethren have zeal for God’s service, but they don’t have enough pleasure and time to spend ministering before him in prayer, praise and worship, study and meditation. They are only consumed for the love for service but don’t have good devotional desire and love of serious intimacy with God for personal changes from glory to glory of spiritual transformation for daily fresh anointing and revelation. Such brethren can only last for a while, ministering without the supply of fresh anointing – Spirit, without the daily early dew from the Lord for spiritual freshness.  Hosea 14:15.
Jesus shows us the importance of spending quality time each day with the Father to provide or give quality service and ministration to the crowd through constant separation for personal and quality devotional time while all men seeks for him and his disciples have to search for different places they’ve once been together for prayers before they found him (and in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, all men seek for thee. Mark 1:35-37), while prophet Isaiah has this to say: the Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakens morning by morning, he wakens mine ear to hear as the learned. The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. Isaiah 50:4-5. Note: true manifestation of God’s present and power is determined by the quality of time spent before him or with him. David was a true amorous (one thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Psalms 27:4: Psalms 42:1) in love with God, not by singing as many supposed, but by his personal devotional time with God: though a man of war, but his physical and earthly engagements, occupation and wearisome circumstances has never interfered with his spiritual devotional time to study (I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word. Mine eyes prevent the night watches that I might meditate in thy word. Psalms 119:147-148), pray and cry daily and very early in the morning, afternoon and evening unto God. Psalms 55:17.
Shall the axe boast itself against him that hews therewith? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shakes it? As if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood. Isaiah 10:15. It is not possible to love the work of God more than God himself who is at work in us for his work. If we would spend enough time before God or with him in our private or personal devotional time, we shall always have enough strength and supply of grace for his service without ever have to complain of exhaustion or weariness, than to mount up always as eagles where others have fainted, failed and fall: we should therefore elevate the first love above the second, that both should be in place and in order. Note: those who have truly spent enough time with God or are truly spending and having good time with him on the mountain of devotional privacy are known (a) by the fruit of a true conversation of life with meekness of wisdom (b) and known according to pattern and quality of what they are building for the Lord according to what is shown unto them on the mount with God in conformity or standard to his word and not otherwise. Exodus 25:40.
The purpose of our creation and existence, first, is to worship and to serve him by our lifestyle by the dedication of our lives unto him as a living sacrifice which is our reasonable service, before we move a-head to serve him through the demonstration of our labor of the love we have for him before others as Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden to dress it, but the sole reason of residence in the Garden of Eden was the meeting of the cool of the day with his God, and you can see that after the meeting was breached by disobedient and sin, he was sent out to till the ground from whence he was made. Genesis 3: 23. There is nothing like unconditional love of God meant to keep any living in self will, foolishness and sin, than to repent and obey, and to live straight by his word. None can keep themselves in the love of God if they will not obey and keep the word of God, just as Adam failed to obey and keep the word of God to remove himself from the love of God (as the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. John 15:9-10): this is the love of God that we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3.
It is designed that mercy and truth should preserve us in the love of God and to prepare us to receive the full mercy that the Lord will show unto us on that day, for he shall his judgment without mercy, he that has shown no mercy, for mercy triumph over judgment. James 2:17. Mercy should not be sought after in prayer before God for the dead after he has taken his last breath, but his works do follow him to eternity, and his ways and actions on earth before his death which are in record (Job 16:19) are awaiting him in the balance for eternal recompense of reward – good or evil – heaven or everlasting shame and contempt: an unmerciful servant, though he be dead in Christ Jesus, shall not found mercy of the Lord on that day:  put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye – be you merciful, even as your heavenly Father is merciful. Colossians 3: 12-13. Matthew18:23 – 35.
It is a mere Pharisaical work of hypocrisy of greater condemnation before God in judgment if the inner man is full of dead men’s bones, though we outwardly appear to be righteous before men by showing mercy to the poor. Good works shall not made it up for our iniquity before the righteous judge who can’t be bribe by any act of kindness and whatever goodness in unrighteousness. Mercies expected to be rewarded on earth and in heaven are those acted out in truth, first, by turning away from iniquity (wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquility. Daniel 4:27) unto righteousness, so as to make room for mercy and truth to meet together (mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Psalms 85:10): except righteousness set the pace to go before him and set us in the way of his steps, we shall never have peace with God now and throughout all eternity (Psalms 85:13): righteousness should precede a- head of mercy, for by mercy and truth (righteousness) iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil. Proverbs 16:6.
God desire mercy…. the desire of man is his kindness….let those who seek for eternal mercy love mercy as commanded. Micah 6:8. To bind mercy and truth on themselves (let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of your heart: so shall thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:3-4), by not forgetful that they are saved, not by their good works or any merit in them; but God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2: 4-7. This is the rest and the assurance of an unfailing hope in the love of God and in the patient waiting for Christ (and the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5) through the wisdom given to the saints (but the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:17) before the arrival of the Lord in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. 2 Thessalonians 1:8-10.
