And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; these things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon the entire world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man takes thy crown. Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches. This is the true and a complete church that is holy without blemish or wrinkle or any such thing before the Lord. Philadelphia means brotherly love. This is the only faultless church without rebuke from the Lord. It is a church where you can find the undiluted truth spoken in love. It is a church where all things are done in love. God’s presence is visible where fervent love is shared among the brethren to cover multitude of sin. It is a church that delighted in open rebuke without offense and they considered it better than secret love. They are made perfect in unity and loved without dissimilation. They abhorred what is evil and cleaved to what is good. It is a selfless and caring church that seeks not her own, but the good of others. It is an assembly of believers that are increasing in un-feigned love of the brethren, where each member considered others better than themselves. Though they had little strength, but the power of divine love motivated their actions. They were faithful to the word of God without compromising to mess up the name and the word of God they represented. The love of the Lord among the Philadelphia congregants has won his great admiration and approval. For her genuineness and commitment to the kingdom works, this church has found favor before the Lord to be promoted for greater responsibilities upon her shoulders. New doors of opportunities and privileges are set before her. 1 Peter 4:8. 1 Thessalonians3:12: (4) 9 – 10. Hebrews 13:11 John4:17.
–Verse 7a. These things said he that is holy, he that is true. Here, we see the identification and personality and character of the chastity of our Lord as he that is holy. Jehovah is a God of truth without iniquity, holy and reverence is his name. Mary, the mother of our Lord also praised in gratitude of him that is holy and mighty. ‘He that is mighty has me great thing, Holy is his name. His spiritual equity and transparency as he that is true. Luke 1:49. The Lord has called us to an inheritance in-corruptible and undefiled, reserved in heaven for us. It is our duty to walk in the spirit of holiness and to accustom ourselves to the chastening and corrections of the Lord that we might be partakers of his holiness. We must love the truth. It is the spiritual detergent that sanctifies us. We must not stay away or back off from declaring the whole counsel of God to all men (sinner or believer) that we might be pure from the blood of all men.
The battle for the soul is fought and won on the ground of embodiment of the whole truth. It is also lost on the ground of half-truth and lies of the enemy. The only way to defeat the devil is to love and embrace the whole truth, and proclaiming it, and living by it, and defending it. John 8: 31 – 32. 2 John1: 4. Hebrews12:14 – 17. 1 Peter1: 13 – 25. Deuteronomy 32: 4. Zephaniah 3: 5. Psalms 145:17. 1 Peter 1:15.
–Verse 7b. Here is a cause for every believer to rejoice in the highness and unsearchable greatness the Most-High. With our God is the supremacy, ultimate power and authority — the head over all things, not only to the church, but over principalities and powers and the rulers of the darkness and of this world. Jesus is the most Excellency who has the keys of David. If he opens any door, there is no man that can shut it: and if he shut at any door, there is no man who can open it. Our Lord does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, what have you done? If the Lord chooses to work; no demon or any sons of man can let, neither hinders, nor stops him. Christ is the King, and against him there is no opposition, no hindrances, neither rising up. Isaiah 13:3. (37)33 – 35. (43) 11 – 21. Psalms 33:8 – 11. Job 34:29. Acts13: 8 – 12. Acts18: 9 – 10. Without the Lord, nothing can be done and neither should it be attempted. Woe unto them that are wise in their own sight, prudent in their own eyes. Nothing should be forced as by our own effort to cause to happen, if we are truly walking with the Lord – by strength shall no man prevail. Zion should not be built up with blood, neither Jerusalem with iniquity. Let nothing be done for pride and vainglory. As the Lord directs our paths, let us walk after him; and as he orders our battles, let us engage with him who is fighting for us. It is not by power, nor by might, but by my Spirit says the Lord. Let us not be self-willed to seek beyond our boundary in the Lord, lest we destroy ourselves. Acts16:6 – 9.
–Verse 8. I know thy works. The Lord knows our labor of love, consecration and diligence, for he wrought those good works in us by our willful compliance. When we make wise use of that which we received from the Lord in faithfulness; be it little or big, the Lord will increase our graces and privileges in stewardship with deeper relationship with him-the secret of the Lord is with them that fears him, and he will show them his covenant. When the Lord said no man can shut the door he has set before us, he means absolutely no man, neither any opposing evil powers of darkness. All his works are in his hands, he holds the breath of all– declaring the end from the beginning, he will do what he says he will do and his word shall not come back void unto him. Genesis 28:10 – 16.
–Verse 9. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Before the final rejection and destruction of the tares among the wheat, or the eternal separation of the goats from the sheep, all false brethren and servants of God shall be exposed one way or other before or after death. Regardless of their insincerity and hypocrisy in religion„ they will be brought into situation and season to have a great regard for the faithful brethren as when the holy presence of Jehovah was made known before the false prophets of Baal worshippers and before all the Jews that were present at Mount Carmel and were forced to bow before prophet Elijah to exclaim that the Lord, he is God. This testimony of Christ shall be confirmed in those faithful brethren of the Lord when the evil doers have finally failed in all their evil attempts to overthrow the righteous, then shall the wicked bow at the gate of the just. This is their consolation for their faithful and unabashed endurance in the affliction of the gospel of Christ for the fulfilment of the word of God. Sinners will not be able to hide nor shall they be able to stand in the congregation of righteous; even before the final separation — the wicked shall flee when no man pursues them. What else could presently comfort and rejoices our heart and fill us with hope in our patient waiting for Christ from heaven in steadfastness of spirit? 1Corinthians1:4 – 6. Proverbs 14:19. Acts13:6 – 12.
–Verse 10. The gospel of Christ, the good news is the word of his patience. Luke 8:15. The Lord has given us the assurance to change our vile bodies to be fashioned like unto his glorious body. He has given us the assurance to be keep us from the hour of great temptation which shall come upon the whole world to try them that dwell on the face of the heart– the time of great tribulation which must follow shortly after the rapture. Behold we count them happy which faithfully endures to the end. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 – 18; (5) 1 – 10. Luke 21:10 – 19. James 5:7 – 8.
–Verse 11 — Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown – no room or place for backsliders and spiritual losers. Whatever gift you have from him is the best suitable gift for you. Don’t look elsewhere to be jealous of another man’s grace or ministry, lest you stretch yourself beyond the Lord’s measure to do things above your measure to miss the goal. Whatever graces and virtues, strength and power, talents and abilities we received from the Lord; they should be zealously guarded and improved upon diligently to fruition so as not to be a slothful and unfaithful servant. Daily is our salvation nearer than when we first believed. Behold he comes shortly! 1 Corinthians 15:58.
–Verses 12 – 13. All the promises and blessings of the faithful and enduring believers speak for themselves. The eternal rest, glory and honor that shall is awaiting them from God at the end of their pilgrimage walk and labor of love in the kingdom. The believer may be a despised thing of the world today, but he is going to be the pillar aftermath, a celebrity and a star in heaven. The laurels and prizes are too good to be missed or given to another…we must trust and obey to the end…. for Christ become the author of eternal salvation unto all those that obeys him. Hebrews 5: 8 – 9.
