We come to the second title of our King and God: and not just his titles, but the person of God, whom he is and what he stands for – the God that is full of patience and consolation – God of relief and comfort – the source of all our comfort. The comfort of man is deceitful, critical and hypocritical as Job found his friends as miserable comforters (Then Job answered and said,I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.Shall vain words have an end? Or what emboldened thee that thou answers?I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you. But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief. Job 16: 1-5)
Man’s comfort is vain just as Job found his friends comforting words to have falsehood as they took advantage to speak foolishly, ignorantly and judiciously as to why the misfortunes befell their beloved…How comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers, there remained falsehood. Job 21: 34.
Nothing of this world (Zachariah 10: 1-2) or the material possession gives lasting and perfect comfort and consolation to man apart from his union with God and of his love and from the comfort of his spirit through the fellowship we enjoy daily – the comforter. John 15:26.

Divine patience in the forbearance of God toward sinners and saints explains and shows that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance! If God should mark iniquity, who can stand? But there is forgiveness with him that he might be feared. He has not dealt with us after our ways, nor rewards us according to our iniquities. …..And theLord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of theLord. And theLordpassed by before him, and proclaimed, TheLord, TheLord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. Exodus 34: 5-7.
King Nebuchadnezzar was warned and given long space to change, but he heeded not until he became an animal and was driven to the bush to eat leaves like the beasts of the field for seven years. Daniel 4:27. (B) God waited for 120 years in the days of Noah for the people to change until he finally poured out the fury of his anger on them in the deluge as he saved only eight people. Matthew 24: 37-39. 1 Peter 3: 16-20. (C) The Sodomites were waited for to change, until he came down to see if they had, but instead their men threatened to have sex with the angels that were sent by God to visit the land and he rained fire and brimstones on them from heaven. Genesis 18: 20-33.
Abraham interceded on their behalf to no avail as he put an end to his conversation with God in his intercessions for the inhabitant of the land, except he has said before the Lord, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak, yet but this once…of course, God expected Abraham to intercede for the Sodomites and that’s just the reason why he revealed his mission to his friend. Abraham might have succeeded to bargain pardon and prolongation of divine and judgmental visitation of the land if he has not put limitation and barrier in his conversation with God. Note: the hasty and thoughtless use of tongue in intercession should be guarded against in precise and thoughtful request according to the goodness and greatness of God, lest we found ourselves obliging God to do what could have been prevented…let your words be few. Genesis 18:32.
(D) The Lord waited for Korah, Dathan and Abiram to change their mind in the camp for their rebellious against Moses authority and they refused to dialogue and reason until the earth opened and swallowed them with their houses and all that they got (Numbers 16: 12-14)
Moses took the advantage of the knowledge of divine longsuffering of God when other ground of reasons failed to prevail for the Israelis in the breach of promise. Numbers 14:17-20. (2) David used it for himself. Psalms 86:15. (3) Jeremiah used it for himself. Jeremiah 15: 15 (4) Apostle Paul testified about it. 1 Timothy 1:15.

The necessity of believer’s patience in his sufferings and walk with God: and in his relationship with his fellow brethren. Colossians 1: 9 – 12.
There is a great  need of patience to do the will of God (Hebrews 10:36 & 12:1) and to run the race to heaven: and in those labors, the tempter is around. Our trails, if patiently endured, will bear the ripe fruit of patience in us (James: 1-4) as it brings us into different experiences in the Lord in our spiritual growth (Romans 5: 1-4) while it is increasing our hope of eternal life in the patient waiting for Christ Romans 8: 24-25: 2 Thessalonians 1: 3-5.
As we are patience in tribulation, we are not to be angry with anyone without cause: neither malicious nor bitter in spirit. We must be patient toward all men as we grow in the fruit of it. Matthew 18: 23-35. 1 Thessalonians 5:14.
If our Lord was spared to suffer for our sins, the just for the unjust; why should we not be content and thankful when our sufferings are only for trial and correction? If he, though perfectly just, why should not we, who are all sinners by nature? If he once suffered, and then entered into glory, shall not we be patient under trouble, since it will be but a little time and we shall follow him to glory? If he suffered, to bring us to God, shall not we patiently submit to difficulties to reign with him afterward? James 5: 7-11. 1 Peter 3: 18.

The consolation of God. Philippians 2:1. Hebrews 6: 18. 2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17.
No matter what our calamities and troubles are, we must patiently wait on God and trust in his unfailing love and care. Great is his faithfulness now and hereafter if we are humbled under his shepherd’s rod, for the Lord will comfort all that mourn in Zion. The rod meant for our chastening is the same meant to defend us for safety and comfort against any attack of the bears and lions – thy rod and staff, they comfort me – after rain, there will be sunshine. Your battles shall be accomplished and your sins pardoned. Psalms 66: 8-12 & 71: 20-21 Isaiah 40:1-2: 51 1-3 & 61: 1-3. There are other ways and means we are comforted by the Lord such as:

  • Consolation of God through the gift of prophesying – 1 Corinthians 14: 31.
-Direct comfort from God through dreams and other providential means: 2 Corinthians 1: 3-7.
  • God shall employ the service of good men to comfort you. 2 Corinthians 7:6. Acts 4: 33-37.
  • In most cases, God shall use the comfort of the scriptures for your consolation so give yourself to the word of God. Psalms 119: 50. Psalms 94: 16-19.
In any way, whatsoever is happening now worth bearing as you keep his way and wait patiently for the great day of the manifestation of divine love and comfort, when God shall wipe away all tears from our eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21: 4.
