Emotions are the ways we feel about things and react to situations in our lives – a demonstration of affection or the expression of feelings or reaction (emotional reaction). Hebrews 10: 38.
Jacob loved Rachael and bargained to serve his father in law for seven years to marry her: but instead of Rachael, Leah (senior sister) was deceitfully presented and given to Jacob in the night of the wedding day. For this deceptive act, Jacob hated and treated her badly but God felt bad for her situation, took Rachel’s side, vindicated and fought for her by opening her womb and intentionally shut up Rachael’s womb because of the way Jacob had treated Leah for her sake. Genesis 29: 31-35.
Some common emotions are happy, sad, angry, and fearful. (1) Our Lord’s anger and emotional reaction to the crowd for the wickedness of their heart against kindness, sympathy and common sense for healing or doing good on the Sabbath day. Mark 3: 1-6. Luke 13: 10-17. (2) Jesus wept at the grave of Lazarus, revealed his humanity, sadness and affection for the family he loves. John 11: 32-35. (3) The emotions of the believing Jews influenced the Lord to follow them to the centurion’s home (emotional master) whose dear servant was at the point of death. Luke 7: 1-10.

(A) Divine emotional reaction and reward to the work of faith – faith without work is dead.

Without faith, it is impossible to please God: therefore, Faith is the positive emotion and reaction to the word of God, in affirmation and expectation to make good his word and promises…… By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with (faith emotion) fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by which he (God) condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Hebrews 11:7. (2) In the same book of Hebrews, we found the similar emotion of faith in Moses when he got to the age of maturity……By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, (spiritual compatriots emotion –ye are brethren) than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of reward. Hebrews 11:24-26.
Finally, we see God’s emotional reaction to Abraham’s work’s or action of faith which was demonstrated in his obedience and love for God in his overall estimation of God’s faithfulness beyond and above any doubt or natural emotional feeling for Isaac. Apart from pleasing God, Abraham focused and expected God to make good his promise even if he have to slay Isaac to obey him…..By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, that in Isaac shall thy seed be called: accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. Hebrews 13:17-19.

God was so impressed and was moved emotionally by Abraham’s work of faith and sworn by himself because he could swear by no greater to certainly bless him for his confidence in his (God’s) integrity. Love is an emotional attachment of affection while trust is its fruit shown and demonstrated among two friends which often yields positive results and lasting friendship, except one is a betrayal and not true to the relationship.
Love is always trusting because he hopes for the best. Abraham obedience in God’s unfailing word and hope in the resurrection power earned him this honoured title, ‘the friend of God’ and was moved to bless Abraham for not withholding his only son Isaac from him after many years of waiting for a child from his own bowel. James 2: 20-24. Hebrews 6: 13-14. Genesis 22: 7-18.

(B) Divine emotional reaction and retribution against unbelief of heart.
While faith pleases and honours God, unbelief displeases and dishonours him. Unbelief is a damnable sin. It is an evil heart, either before or after conversion…..keep your heart with all diligent, for out of it are the issues of life – take heed brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. Note: if we do not take God by his word in the simplicity of Christ and in a child- like spirit and faith, we are prone to be double-minded to certain promises, exhortations, warnings and instructions in righteousness from the scriptures in defiance to the integrity, immutability and the authenticity of the word of God: except we bring every thought –including ours into captivity to the obedience of Christ, we are likely to become spiritually unstable and to wrest the holy writs to our own destruction – forever O Lord, your word is settled in heaven. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6. 2 Peter 3:16. Psalms 119:89. Hebrews 3: 12.
Numerous and uncountable were the wondrous works of God in his mercy and goodness towards the house of Jacob (the children of Israelis) right from the land of Egypt to the wilderness until they got to Kadesh-barnea in the wilderness of Zin from where they were instructed to choose twelve able men, one from each tribe to search the land of Canaan and to bring back word from their search before they go in to possess it – he has showed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. Thus, all his (God’s) miracles were for a purpose- that they might learn to fear, believes and obeys him: but not as expected from them as we read Psalms 78 verses 32 – for all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works…..Exodus 4: 1-9.
The breach of promise (Numbers 14:34) was the day of provocation when they finally weary God’s forbearance and longsuffering as he reprimanded their unbelief and reminded them for the number of times they’ve been provoking and tempting and bearing them….Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times (the sentimental God-except we repent and believed, he will require that which is past. Ecclesiastes 3: 15) and have not hearkened to my voice; surely they shall not see the land which I swear unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it…..Numbers 14:22-23.

Also, we see the disappointed Christ lamenting and pronouncing malediction against the countries (Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum) where he expected much result but found nothing, though he has bestowed much spiritual labour and performed many miracles there among them than in any city or coast of Israel.  Matthew 11:20-24.
Finally, we see the emotional Christ weeping for the city and people of Jerusalem for their insensitivity to the presence of God among them – their nonchalant spiritual attitude to the time of their visitation and consequences of the future calamities coming upon them as the result of it. Matthew 23: 37-39. Luke 19:41-44.

C. Divine emotional reaction against infringement to the holiness of God.
God is the King of saints. He is holy, holy, holy Lord God almighty. Everything about him is holy. His name, works, word, ways, doings, judgements, angels, oil and temple……little wonder he commanded us to be holy in all manner of conversation.1Peter 15-18.
David had never seen God in the form he witnessed his quick and rapid reaction in his emotional response against Uzza when he attempted to help, hold and support the trembling ark of the Lord in the cart on its way to Jerusalem. The Lord made a breach on Uzzah and killed him on the spot because it were not given or appertained to him to come near the ark of God neither to touch it for whatever reason……and on that day, the scripture says, David was afraid of the Lord! 1 Chronicles 13:12. Numbers 4: 15-20.
May we never take the Lord and his holiness for granted: and may the Lord never hardens our heart against the fear of his holliness. Note: zeal and good intentions without the knowledge of the holy One and self-control in his presence is not sufficient to avert the wrath of God for any intrusion into his holiness. Not all are holy and are qualified to minister in the temple in his name which are not sanctified, anointed and consecrated to that office. Numbers 16:3.
Any material or physical vessel dedicated to the service of the Lord becomes consecrated and sanctified unto him. His they are and for his honour and glory such should be used. It would be sinful and dishonour to the majesty of God to divert the use of any holy thing or vessel for any worldly, evil, personal or demonic use. God would be fretted and vengeful to any infringement of his holiness –ignorantly or willingly.
Note: Just as God was moved by Abraham’s act of faith and sworn by himself to bless the patriarch by all means and at all cost: and just as he was moved to curse the Israelis in the wilderness, to wander and be wasted for forty years because off their unbelief in the breach of promise at the wilderness of Zin – such is the reward of faith if we shall take the Lord by his word and the consequence of unbelief if we allows the spirit and the evil heart of unbelief to found a place in us. Christ should dwell in our heart by faith as we follow righteousness, peace and love with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Desecration of holy vessel(s) for any unclean use shall be met with fierce wrath from the thrice holy God even as Belshazzar the king was instantly rebuked, his days numbered and finished, his actions weighed and instantly judged wanting and was cut off from the land of the living. Daniel 5.
What more shall I say to the emotional reaction of Christ when he entered into the temple and found men and women buying and selling in the house of God – for the holy and justified anger he demonstrated, the scourge of small cords he made to cast them out to fulfil the scriptures that the zeal of thy house hath consumed me – much-more – my house shall be called the house of prayer for all nations but you have made it a den of thieves? John 2: 13-17.
