And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; these things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou suffer that woman Jezebel, which calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he who searches the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. And he that overcomes, and keeps my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Verses 18. Christ is identified as the Son of God – the express image of the invisible God. No man has seen God at any time, but the only begotten of the Father from His bosom hath declared Him. John 1:18.    When you read the title of Christ as Son of God, you are so glad because God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son. But Christ is the seed of the woman given in exchange for the sins and salvation of the world- mankind. Christ title of the Son of man attributed to him (I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Daniel 7:13-14) gives us a glimpse to the uniqueness of his sacrifice and its eternal impact for all it entails to accomplish our redemption on the cross of Calvary, though he was the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. Christ, for his willingness and love to share in our nature of flesh and blood through his conception by the Holy Ghost and birth through an earthly mother becomes the head of the human race, having tasted death for all men (because the atonement from Adam’s sin required a blood without blemish which could only be found in God- man or man- God) and made as our eternal High priest to represent us in things pertaining to God. Our Lord’s surrogate birth and death for us earned him this honorable, powerful and authoritative position before the Father as the Son of man. Verily, verily, I say unto you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.  For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. John 5:25-27.

The descriptions and character of his appearance – His eyes are like a flame of fire, signifying his sharp, penetrating and perfect knowledge, a thorough insight into all persons and all things, one who searches the hearts and tries the reins of us all. (ii.) That his feet are like fine brass, which is the manifestation of the purity and holiness of him who judges with perfect wisdom and acts with perfect strength. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and holy in all his works. Psalms 145:17.

Verses 19. God is light and in him is no darkness. We must constantly be reminded that all things are naked and opened before the thrice holy God with whom we have to do. There is no darkness or deep shadow where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. Hell and destruction are before him, much more than the hearts of the sons of men. Whatever, in pretense or in sincerity, the Lord knows our works, charity, service, faith and patience, how much when he is the performer of those good works in us both to will and do according to his good pleasure. Job 34:22. Proverbs 15:11. Philippians 1:12-18. Hebrews 4:12-13. If the message of the cross is no more an offence and foolishness to them that are lost around us and our life of righteousness is not provoking the ungodly, I think it should be matter of great concern to us. Proverbs 29:27.

This is the first church that the Lord found commendable love, faith, services and patience, worthy of his praise and acknowledgement. Theirs is the greatest and most desirable commendation- the praises that comes from the Lord. Many will seek the ruler’s favor, but every man’s judgment comes from God. This is a community of brethren with super abundant and exceeding grace of God- the last to be more than first. They learned fast by quickly adapted themselves with strong in their new life to grow in grace and in knowledge of God’s word. They have not received the grace of God in vain, but they increased daily in spiritual graces, striving to make their calling and election sure. 1 Corinthians 15:9-10.

Verse 20. Christ is the Lord of truth and love, and the Lord will not only speak the truth in love to correct us for our growth, he also expects us to speak the truth in love to one another, that we might grow up unto him into all things which the head, even Christ. Ephesians 4:15.
The Lord’s rebuke against this church- notwithstanding, I have a few things against thee. The unscriptural worldly tolerance of gender equality of women’s ability to preach and teach like men on the altar – you suffered that woman Jezebel, which calls herself a prophetess, to teach, and to seduce my servant to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols.
What is not permitted in the scriptures should not be practiced in the churches. Modernization is a rebellious spirit against God. God’s word is from everlasting and for everlasting. He has nothing to do with an era or being current with the world. The scripture gives us two reasons why a woman should not have authority over men to teach or preach in the general assembly, comprising of men and women: (I) because of her position in the creation as one created after Adam. (ii). Because of her role in the fall. 1Timothy2:12-14. 1 Corinthians14:34-38.                                                                                                    We must seek to please the Lord above any human or worldly assumption or personality in the church and not to have respect of person for any reason against the word of God, be it for the king, queen or servant. Women have their rightful service and places of indisputable honorable and glorious labor of love in the church before the Lord. It is not because she is gifted to prophesy or enriched with the gift of healing should she be allowed to stand on the pulpit as the preacher woman.                                                              Jezebel stands for (1) the spirit of manipulation and witchcraft. 1 king 21:25. 2 Kings 9: 22. (ii) It is a cruel, idolatrous, religious, lying and slanderous spirit. 1 Kings 21:5-10. (iii) It is a murderous, intimidate, pushy and domineering spirit. 1 Kings18:13. 1 Kings 19. (iv.) It is rebellious, seductive, sexual promiscuity and immorality of the highest order. 2 Kings 9: 30. 2. Chronicles 21:12-13.

Verse 21-23. I gave her space to repent. Note: each day bring us closer to the grave and eternity. Let us wisely make use of each day to draw nearer to God. Divine longsuffering should not be counted as justice forgotten or non-existing, lest we should suddenly be destroyed. Now is the time to repent and to make all the wrong right as soon as possible in the light of the word of God. Ecclesiastes 8:11-12.

Verse 24-29. The Lord’s assurances to the faithful brethren in the church, who will not tolerate Jezebel on the altar, neither bring themselves to sit under the ministry of a woman pastor. Their steadfastness in the present truth shall preserve them from further trials or temptation…I will put upon you none other burden – as many as have not this doctrine (the doctrine of women equality and unscriptural women’s empowerment in the church). Isaiah 3:12.                                                                                                        The Lord’s exhortations and promises – hold fast what you have till I come…make use of your gifts (one, two, or three) and other endowment from the Lord faithfully in his work. To improve and increase in them – let your profiting and fruitfulness appears to all. It is for our safety and duty to continue as we have received Christ, to endeavor by all means (life or death) to keep the work of the Lord committed to our trust to the end: that at the end, we might rule and reign with Christ in his future rule in the new heaven and new earth – the new dwelling place of the righteous.
The morning star is another promise of reward from the Lord- I will give the morning star. Christ himself is the morning star. I think this is speaking of the fullness of Christ in us in glory when he will be our light and our appearances shall be transformed to be as he is, if we follow him faithfully in holiness to the end. Whosoever has ears to ear, let him hear. Revelation 22:16.
