This particular word ‘Another Spirit’ appears from both Old and New testaments of the bible, but our text is from the Old Testament account from which we gleaning; while the same word another Spirit from the New Testament does not coherent with what the spirit of the Lord have to say in this place.
Apostle Paul, speaking to the Corinthians brethren warned them to be very careful and discernible as to the type of Jesus they are allowing the false minsters to present to them; and if not, they might end up with a false Christ in their lives and shall be responsible in hell fire for their foolishness in believing and serving a false saviour. He further warned them against the gospel of deception: the gospel of broad way and wide gate, of flattering words and fair speeches, of worldliness and the lusts thereof; lest they finished their race in the flesh like the foolish Galatians who has once begun in the Spirit but were made perfect in the flesh to their own detriments.
He goes further to warns them of another spirit different from the real and genuine baptism of the Holy Spirit which only comes from God the Father through Jesus Christ to them that believes in him and has accepted him as their personal Lord and Saviour in obedience to his word. In other words, he is warning them that there are familiar spirits (evil spirits) out there which some men and women (agents and children of Satan) are operating under their influences; while those spirits are parading and manifesting themselves like the Spirit of the living God. Not every spirits that acknowledges the name of Christ are really of him and the brethren shall do well if they should pray open up themselves to the spirit of discernment and of the sound judgement of scriptures to judge whosoever and whatsoever by their fruit through the manifestations of their works in earnest prayer and to listen to the voice of God’s spirit within them for the conviction of the Holy Spirit in such matter as the beloved Apostle John in the fourth gospel of his Epistle forewarns not to trust every spirit, but to try them whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1.
The Samaritans took Simeon the sorcerer for a true servant of God, while hailing him as a man with the great power of God; unknowingly to them, Simeon the sorcerer had cast spell and bewitched the people to believe in a lie through the miracles he performed by the power of the unclean spirit that possessed him to do such things. It was at the arrival of Philip the evangelist that Simeon himself heard the true gospel of Christ crucified, got baptized and saved. But when Simeon saw that through the laying on of hand, the Spirit of God descended on them that believed; his quest for power moved him to propose money to Apostle Peter to sell or transfer him the ability to lay hand on anybody for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, having seen the clear difference between the operations of the spirit of witchcraft that once possessed him, which is demonic in origin in contrast to the pure and Holy Spirit of the living God.
Jesus was accused of the Pharisees that he cast out the demons by Beelzebub, the prince of demons. On the other words, they were saying that Christ power and authority and great influences over the unclean spirits in them that were possessed was delegated by Satan unto him. Christ refuted their accusation, but instead exposed their children as the agents and children of Satan using the power of the unclean spirits to cast out demons.
The enemy knew that he has but a short time and no matter how he works to put his house in order; it shall at the end be scattered, crumbled and eternally destroyed. Therefore, the devil will never mind to divide his own house to gain more souls with him down to hell by giving power to his false apostles and prophets to work temporal miracles and fake deliverance just to deceives the simple and the unlearned which are wrestling the scriptures to their own destruction. If the unclean spirits can try to come back into the house (the old victim body) which is truly and thoroughly cleansed by the Holy Spirit; but because of the steadfastness of the believer in the Lord, they could not gain access again into such life; how much more shall they go back to their former house which they had vacated temporary through spiritual bargain and negotiation for a public show to deceive the worshippers of God. Matthew 12:43 – 45.
Apostle Paul warned and instructed Timothy not to lay hands suddenly on any man — but the believer should be careful as well not to allow anybody to minister to them through the laying on of hands. In the process or administration of laying on of hands, there is a spiritual contact and transfer established in the spirit realm; and while the ignorant man is seeking healing or whatever blessings from the living God, he is now unconsciously a victim and his life re-dedicated to Satan by his agents through the laying on of hands as they minister through another spirit and power which is evil and demonic in origin…..Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preach another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 2 Corinthians 11:1 – 4. Note: with all the spiritual materials and weapons and the written word in our disposal, it becomes our sole responsibility to safeguards our spiritual improvements and stability in our constant growth in the true grace of God and to make ourselves strong in the same grace wherein we are expected to stand and to stand still against every winds of doctrine from the false apostles, prophets, pastors and evangelists, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. We should not allow the devil to take back what we have in exchange for cheap doctrine in flattering words of false salvation and hope of eternal life by accepting counterfeit Jesus, cheap and cross-less gospel and false spirit which has no effect of freedom from sin in a crucified life to the world and the world crucified to the believer. Galatians 2:20.
Now, coming back to our actual text from the book of Numbers 14 verses 24 where God commended the courage of Joshua and Caleb, the two men among the twelve spies that went to search the land of Canaan as they stood their ground to give a good and encouraging reports of it to the Israelites in contrast to the evil, negative and discouraging reports of the rest of the spies that weakened and demoralized the children of Israelites as they desired and decided a U turn to go back to Egypt……but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereunto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
What is this another spirit in Caleb and where does it originated from? The answer is very simple as we found out from the narration of his conversation with Joshua the successor of Moses….then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgah: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the Lord said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea. Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. Numbers 14:6 – 7.
So, what was in the heart of Caleb despite the giants and the other physical challenges that he and the other spies evidently saw in the land that they went to spy and despite the visibility of the great cities with walls fenced up to heaven?
In Psalms 106 verses 24, it was clear that the Israelis were not grateful in appreciation for the promised land but despised it in unbelief and murmured against God for it; nonetheless right deep in Caleb’s heart is the spirit of faith saying, if God has brought us so far, he will take us farther and he will yet deliver us, though the land devoured its inhabitants according the evil report of the other spies, yet the land is for our possession to bring out milk and honey fort our nutrients…..we having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak. 2 Corinthians 4:13.
We should understand that God required and expected the twelve spies to assess and give the reports of their findings in the land they were sent to spy: what it is; and the people that dwelled therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many; and what the land is that the inhabitants dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they have that they dwell in, whether in tents or strongholds; and what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. Numbers 13:17 – 21.
Faith is another revelatory name of God. If the word of God is the word of faith: and in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God, he is therefore faith. He called the children of Israel as faithless –children in whom is no faith: which means, they do not resemble him. They do not have the testimony of their father’s name (faith). In the book Romans chapter 10 verses 8 it declares, what says it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach…. from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks: therefore, it is important that we constantly speaks the good and living word of God treasures up in our heart in the face of any situation because our God is beautiful for all situations.
God as well as Satan is so much interested in whatsoever that is coming out of our mouth, lips and tongue. We are either snared by the word of our mouth or are creating a new and bright future through the word of life we are pronouncing over our life, situation or circumstances – life and death is in the power of the tongue. We need to speak rightly and biblically by speaking the promises of God’s word that contradicts our problems and circumstances as we hold fast the confession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised. Receive, I pray thee, the law from his (God’s) mouth, and lay up his word in thine heart. Job 22:22. Never should we allow our sight and the unusual experiences in our walk to corrupt our confessions against the promises and the testimony of the word of God. It is the enemy’s pursuits and desires and expectations to have us confessing the negative situational experiences while ignoring the confession of the word of God which is meant to re-shape or recreate our unpleasant situations.
This is the power of faith in positive confession — for we understand that by faith, the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Caleb’s spirit is the spirit of optimistic and of total conviction in the word of God. It is the spirit of positive confession in the word and promises of God. It is the spirit of the word resided and stored up in his heart which eventually empowered and preserved him while the rest of the spies were wasted and destroyed in the wilderness as the result and .fruits of their evil and negative and faithless confessions before God…say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as you have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you. Doubtless you shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein (because of your negative spirit and confession to my word and promises) save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Num (because of their positive spirits and confessions to my word)…. And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord. But Joshua the son of Num, and Caleb the son Jephuneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still. Numbers 14: 28 – 38.
