The Lord rebuked his servant (Prophet Samuel) for his unceasing mourning for Saul’s rejection and was instructed to go to Bethlehem at Jesse’s house to anoint him a new king he has provided for himself to give his people – a man after his own heart – the people provided themselves a king and he proved bad, now I will provide myself one, a man after my own heart.”

Jesse was summoned and all his children were present as Eliab, the eldest of them all was presented first to Samuel and as the prophet saw him, he was impressed by his height and stature, his physical appearance and personal presentation and he thought within himself: surely this is the Lord’s anointed king; this must be him the Lord has chosen….. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, surely the LORD’s anointed is before him.

But the LORD said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 15: 6-7

Note: to safeguard our constant spirituality and always to get it right with God, we must be slow to speak, speak not what we think but what we actually hear – for the heart is deceitful above every other thing and desperately wicked – he that speaks a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame unto him. Proverbs 18:13. Get my book on Spiritual communication on ‘How to know and to hear the voice of God’ at apostle@glbmchurch.com for more details on this subject.

We are prone to make the same mistake over and over again if we chose to go by the sight of the eyes and not by the guides of the Holy- Spirit.

Saul stature and countenance recommended him as much as men could because God would please the people with a king, he chose a comely man (1 Samuel 10:23-24) but when he would have one after his own heart, he should not be chosen by the sight of the eyes, but by the intent of heart – we can tell how men look, but the Lord can tell what they are.

The true beauty is not the majesty of the look or the strength and stature of the body according to the world: let us know that it is the beauty and virtues of Christ within that counts (the new man) and men should be judge by their minds, not their mien (bearing, presence, look or appearance)

Appearance is deceitful, man looks outside but the Lord looks and sees through the inside of the heart of man and he declares unto him what are his thoughts. Amos 4:13.

Men see and judge by the sight of the eyes and is fascinated and deceived by the liveliness and beauty that appear in them but the Lord looks on the heart, and sees the thoughts and the intents of it and that’s what he puts into consideration to judge – he understands our thoughts a far off. Psalms 139: 2.

In the prerogative of divine sovereignty, God did not dispose his honor and authority according to seniority as men dispose of their estates to their sons according to their age or priority of birth. Moses was youngest to Aaron and Miriam, yet he was preferred before and exalted above them in spiritual responsibility, position and power with God because he has in him what it takes to bring the children of Israeli out of Egypt to the border of Canaan.

Joseph was the second to the last born of Jacob, the eleventh of the twelve, yet was he chosen and exalted to be the governor over all is brethren and the house of Pharaoh and the Egyptian because he has the heart to fulfill the pleasures and purposes of God in the cause.

David was the last born of Jesse, the youngest who ought to be the foundlings of the family, yet he was least set by of all his sons – left alone in the fields, keeping the sheep. Many a great genius lays buried in obscurity and contempt but see how the Lord remembered us in our low estate…. Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, the LORD hath not chosen these.

And Samuel said unto Jesse, are here all thy children? And he said, there remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep.

And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. 1 Samuel 16:10-13.

The insight eye of God is the eye that sees into the heart of the heart of men to expose the secret of their hearts; all things are naked and opened before him with whom we have to do.

It is the eyes that exposed the hypocrisy and deceitful act of Ananias and Sapphire his wife in their monetary gift to the church: in their pride of life and quest for praise and men’s admiration to deceive the church for the amount given in comparison to the actual price the land was sold – that eyes sees everything in the secret and darkness cannot hide before him…. But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart?

Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered unto her, tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, yea, for so much.

Then Peter said unto her, how is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. Acts 5: 1-11.

Naaman, the captain of the Syrian army was healed of his leprosy free of charge as the Prophet refused to take the gifts offered unto him for appreciation.

In his covetousness and desire for unjust wealth, riches and gain, Gehazi went behind the prophet Elisha, demanded for the gifts refused by his master in the name of his master from Naaman. He went back home and hid the gifts and continue his business as usual before Elisha.

All this while Gehazi has been taking God and the prophet for granted, for how possibly could someone be serving under the prophet and think the seer is not seeing and God will not speak? Gehazi walked barefooted under the hot coals and got his feet burnt. He put serpent under his pillow and got the venom from the reptile as the leprosy of Naaman came upon him and his generations after him….but Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

And he said, all is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments. And Naaman said, be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him. And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed. But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, thy servant went no whither.

And he said unto him, went not mine heart (divine insight) with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow. 2 Kings 5: 20-27.

Abraham at Gerar, against the attraction of Sarah’s beauty and for the wickedness of the people of the land whose heart is far from God: and to prevent them from killing him to take his wife – and of Sarah Abraham said, she is my sister. Thus Abimelech the king of Gerar sent for Sarah to be with her and to know her intimately. Genesis 20:11.

The king became impotent (no erection) throughout the night and his desire to lie carnally with Sarah vanished away; so he slept that night waiting for the day to fortify himself against the next night to lie with Sarah…..But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife. But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, LORD, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? Said he not unto me, she is my sister? And she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands have I done this.

And God said unto him in a dream, yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.

Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine. Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid. Genesis 20: 1-8.

Abimelech pleaded not guilty on the ignorance that Abraham and Sarah had agreed to impose upon him, and not to let him know that they were any more than brother and sister. Note: if our conscience witness to our integrity, and that however we may have been cheated into a snare, we have not consciously and willfully sinned against God – such is our rejoicing, the testimony of our conscience….my little children let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 1 John 3:18-21.

The Lord knows our honesty if we are honest – God allows Abimelech’s plea and acknowledged that he knew that what he did he did in the integrity of his heart: that is; his motive, desire and pleasure was not to take advantage of Abraham and his wife and never to oppress them as strangers but to have a beautiful woman like Sarah for a wife and Abraham for a fortunate brother in law to the king.

By divine providence, love and mercy, God took away the opportunity to sin from Abimelech by supernatural weakened the strength of his manhood in the absence of sexual desire and libido….I withheld thee from sinning against me because I can see through your heart (divine insight) that your motive was right and genuine but the interest wrong and fatal.

The Lord sent the children of Benjamin and Judah to increase the helpers for his servant David and to fortify his camp and armies against the threats of King Saul. He wasn’t sure and convinced of their presence and suspicious of them as traitors.

David invoked divine insight and intervention into the matter….the God of our fathers look into it and rebukes it if you have come to betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands – the God of our fathers look (divine insight) thereon and rebuke it. 1 Chronicles 12: 17.

Thus David prayed and invoked the power of divine insight (eyes that sees beyond and more than the physical views and observations) to overturns any of their plans for evil against him if their motives of coming were wrong and evil, false and deceptive….. Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.1 Chronicles 12:18.

In our conversation, service to God and man, our motivation and force of action should be pure and right if we are to expect any praise and reward from the Lord….whatsoever you do, do it with all your heart, as unto the Lord and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of inheritance: for ye serve Christ. Colossians 3: 23-24.

The acceptance and reward, rejection and loss of our good works and deeds before the insightful eyes of God are based on our motives to do what we do and why we do it. The state of our heart in the process is scrutinized by the all seeing eyes of God; either in the singleness of heart as the right hand should not know what the left hand has done to glorify God – or in the pride of life like the self trumpet (hypocrites) blower Pharisees that they might have the praise and admiration of men…every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the Lord pondereth (looks deeper into and weight the spirit behind the action) the hearts. Proverbs 21: 2.

Such words as the purpose, intents, motives, and interests, incentive and inducement are the criteria of divine justification in our dealings with people in any matter or cases – we may justify ourselves before men, but God knows our hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men, is abomination in the sight of God. Luke 16:15.

The foresight eye of God is the accurate predictable power of divine Omniscience (all knowing God) and understanding of future events declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand., and I will do all my pleasure. Isaiah 46: 10.

It is the eye that saw Peter’s temptation and fall and warned him ahead of it and instructed him what to do aftermath his conversion and prayed
for him that his faith should fail. Luke 22: 31-32.

It is the eye that foretold Hazael’s reigns as King and speaks beforehand of his heartless and wicked deeds in power (kill the young men with sword, dash baby on the ground, rip open their pregnant women) 2 kings 8: 7-15 Amos 1: 3-4. Hosea 13:16.

It is the eye that saw Nathaniel sitting under the fig tree before Philip invited him to Christ – the sincere Israeli indeed, in whom is no guile (pretense and hypocrisy) John 1: 45-49.
