The past and present compassionate eyes of God Revelation 5.

And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.  And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. And they sung a new song, saying, thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth…. Revelation 5.

The primary purpose of man’s existence is to worship God as we can see in the fulfilled objective of God’s presence in every cool of the day in the garden to fellowship with the object of his love (man) before the Devil came in to spoil the relationship…O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet. Psalms 8:1-6.

Past and present compassionate eyes of God reveal the great love of God and the longing of his heart to fellowship and relate with man. Still after the fall, he revealed the continuation of his eternal purposes and plans in the judgments as he provided a redeemer and substitute for himself in man…..God was in Christ Jesus, reconciling the whole world unto himself and not imputing their trespasses unto them again…2 Corinthians 5:19.

The God of man became man as God manifested in the flesh in the eternal word that became flesh and dwells among us for the sacrifice of himself to bring the lost sinners back to himself. It is the mystery of godliness in the Lamb of God slain before the foundation of the world, died for man’s sin and redemption, raised up on the third day for his justification and has gone into the heavens, sitting on the right hand of God the Father interceding for us and giving grace and help in times of need to preserve and save to the end. Isaiah 53: 1-12. Isaiah 59: 16-21. Luke 15:11-20. Lam 3: 21-23:31-32. Hebrews 4:14-16. Hebrews 7: 22-25. Hebrews 9: 24.

The compassionate eye of God in divine forbearance is the endurance and long-sufferings of God in his patience dealings with us as he consistently tempers mercy with justice in his dealings with us. In our waywardness and state of backslidden, stubbornness and self-willed, he constantly warns and corrects as he patiently wait for us to return to him in righteousness and in truth with all our heart.

Moses was a wise learner and never a forgetful hearer. Had he not stood on the knowledge of declaration of these names of the Lord in the breach of promise (Numbers 14: 11-19) the whole seed of Israel should have been destroyed and a new nation of people be made for him to bring to Canaan. How can we order our speech and know what to say in response unto him when he reproved us (I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I will answer when I am reproved Habakkuk 2:1) except with what we have learnt and received from him?  John 6:45.

Israelis had sinned in the matter of the golden calf which Aaron made. Moses broke the tables of the law and the Lord summoned him to come up to the mountain for another. He presented himself before the Lord as instructed and the Lord descended in the cloud and there proclaimed the ‘deeds of his name’ before Moses.

The revelation of these ‘deeds of the name’ of the Lord (declarations of his spiritual moral principles and virtues) by which he would make himself known to his people Israel and to all mankind alike (Is he the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of the Gentiles? Yes of the Gentiles also Romans 3:29)…..and the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.   And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. Exodus 34: 1-7.

He overlooks and forgives out of his own good pleasure, from his own inclination to forgive and be gracious – he has not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewards us according to our iniquities- for his name’s, mercies and compassion sake Psalms 103: 8-10. (2). Longsuffering – slow to anger – the Lord is so bearing, accommodative and calm with his people as he demonstrates and shows mercy and goodness by not dealing with us after our ways and not rewarding us according to our iniquities (yet God of heaven keeps an account how long sinners persist in their provocations; and the longer they persist the more he is displeased Numbers 14: 11 and 22 ) as he gives warnings and corrections for so long to bring back to the paths of righteousness – if he should bring every sin into account, who shall stand? Forgiveness is with with him, that he might be feared. Psalms 130: 3. (3). The sole exercise of divine prerogative in his Sovereignty and his unparallel divinity in the forgiveness of sins and transgressions – showing mercy (Romans 9:15-16) unto thousands and forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin….who is a God like unto thee, that pardons (present continuous tense – it is of the mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed and his compassion never fails) iniquity, and passeth (overlooks and ignores) by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger forever, because he delights (his divine pleasure) in mercy. He will return again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depth of sea. Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old. Micah 7: 18-20. (4). He will by no means clear the guilty – the goodness of God should not be presumed upon: thus we are told how great he is (the Lord God – Jehovah-El, the Lord, the strong God, a God of almighty power himself, and the original and source of all power Exodus 34: 6) and that the terror of his greatness may not make us afraid, we are told how good he is – merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and abundance in goodness and truth….

In the compassionate eyes of God, there is always the given ‘space to repent’ ….wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening (prolongation – space to repent) of thy tranquility Daniel 4: 27. (2). ‘Time to change’ and to learn from the past mistakes, to correct the errors of our ways and doings from the occasions of our fall as we cast away the stumbling blocks of our iniquity: except that, we becomes a student that never get it right (ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth 2 Timothy 3: 1-7) and the Lord shall be left with no choice to pour his unbearable wrath in his justice on the unbroken and the unchanging sinners in Zion (sinners of his people Amos 9: 8-10 Psalms 68:21)…. I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou suffers (allows) that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searches the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. Revelation 2: 19-23. Psalms 78: 34-38. Luke 13: 1-9.

Let the days of the wicked be prosperous and prolonged in his wickedness, such is the manifestation of the compassionate deeds and acts of God in his divine forbearance and longsuffering- not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3: 3-9.

Let men not observe lying vanities, lest they forsake their own mercy. Jonah 2: 1-3. Note: the deceitfulness of sin in the lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eyes and the pride of life through the influence of evil company around us should be forsaken and denied to rob us from the presence peace and sense of belongings we have in the joy and maintenance of our present fellowship in the assurance of the eternal communion and transformation we’re anticipating in the world to come…..because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily (compassionate act of God in divine forbearance) therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though sinners do evil an hundred times and his days are prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: but it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feared not before God. Ecclesiastes 8: 11-13.

Compassionate eyes of God in universal goodness – though the whole creation is under divine curse from the fall while groaning and travailing in pain until now and waiting for the manifestations of the sons of God; yet, the compassionate eyes of God are on his creatures in his declaration of summer and winter, seeds time and harvest time.  He cares for all sundry: animals and all beings – good or bad; righteous or sinners. He gives breadth and life to all as the maker and sustainer thereof, for all live unto him…. Ye have heard that it hath been said, thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:43-45.

The entire world occupants are blessed from the goodness and fullness of the lands and of the fields in fruitful seasons and in the continual preservation and divine help in innumerable ways and things. The most rebellious and wicked found good and prosperity in life as they live happily and prosperously as providence permits them and as he constantly seek the way to bring them to him in repentance, reconciliation and fellowship with him before they depart from this world into eternity. Psalms 17: 13-15. Psalms 136: 24-25. Psalms 145: 8-9: 15-16.

Though the Lord declared his love for Jacob and hatred for Esau – though our mother Rebecca devised scheme to transfer the blessings of the firstborn (Esau) to Jacob the last: yet, the good- ness and blessings of God in the compassionate eyes of God in the universal goodness were so evidenced in Esau’s life that both of them could not dwell together for the greatness of their wealth in material possession and other blessings. Jacob tried to persuade his brother to receive some gifts to blind his mind and to rob him of his memories of the stolen birthright, but the abundance of Esau’s blessing and inheritance held him back at first: but for the assurance of his forgiveness, acceptance and reconciliation with Jacob he accepted his gifts……And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids. And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost. And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, who are those with thee? And he said, the children which God hath graciously given thy servant. Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves. And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

And he said, what meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, these are to find grace in the sight of my lord. And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself. And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me. Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it….And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.

For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle. Genesis 33: 1-11 Genesis 36: 6-7.

King Pharaoh was a man of the world, a strange god and flesh. In his idolatry and ignorance of the true and living God of heaven and earth, he received revelations of the great famine which was to befall the whole nations of the world then to prepare in the year of plenty to save the whole world from perishing by famine in the year of drought and want by the counsel of Joseph. Note: when the sinners and the unrighteous benefits from indisputable and unmerited revelations to preserve them from perilous days and events that they might not die in sin and so perish, they take it for granted in the blindness of their understanding and minds the necessity and urgency of a repentant heart from sins and dead works to God and thus asked- if God is not with me, why am I seeing dreams coming to pass all the time – the answer – the Lord is good to all and tender mercies are upon all the works of his hands in the compassionate acts of God in universal goodness. Genesis 41: 28-32. Psalms 145:9.
